1. Seal Your Marble Countertop Regularly
You should always seal your marble countertop once or twice yearly. Doing so ensures that your beautiful stone is well-protected against staining.
We recommend using high-quality stone impregnators, such as “Tenax Proseal” to protect your marble counter from oil and water. Sealing your countertop also helps prevent unnecessary spending for restoration.
2. Use Mats, Trays, and Coasters Every Time
Apart from staining, marble is also sensitive to acidic food and drinks. If a drop of vinegar or lime juice comes in contact with marble, its Calcium carbonate composition reacts to the acid, dulling the surface, which we call etching.
Hence, it is necessary to clean up spills and drips immediately.
Never put food directly on your marble countertop to prevent staining and etching. Use placemats or trays when serving dishes. And use coasters under every bottle and glass all the time.
3. Use Only a Specially-Formulated Stone Cleaner
For everyday cleaning, use a soft cloth or microfiber towel and a neutral cleaner designed for stone.
Never use soapy water as it can dull your marble’s shine.
Don’t use generic cleaning products as these can damage your marble’s surface and degrade your stone sealer. Likewise, avoid using vinegar or lemon juice as “green” alternatives to cleaning products to prevent etching.
Stick to specially-formulated stone cleaners instead. These products help keep your marble countertop clean and shiny without affecting your sealer’s effectiveness.
4.Use a Poultice to Remove Minor Stains
For mild stains, mix baking soda with water until you acquire a consistency similar to peanut butter. Spread it over the stained area and cover it afterward.
After 12 to 24 hours, remove the paste and wipe the area with a damp cloth. If the stain persists, repeat the process as necessary.
Marble is a beautiful countertop material that requires extra care and maintenance. But by following a set of simple tasks and making it a habit, your marble counter will provide you a lifetime of service in the kitchen.
